Pictured Walmley Under 13's -
The 2016 season saw 306 teams from 69 clubs enter one of the WCB's 16 junior boys competitions. Whilst a few fell at the first hurdle due to changing circumstances at their clubs we were re- joined by a few with Henley and Tanworth In Arden putting sides into U9 tournaments during the season. We have therefore seen a great deal of cricket played over the summer for which we are indebted to many volunteer managers and coaches across the county.
The 16 competitions cover all bases from Under 9 pairs cricket to Under 19 T20 and covering all the age groups in the middle. The 2016 season is now drawing to a close and the next few weekends will see sides from 15 of our clubs contesting finals at one or more age group.

In addition to competitions that conclude with a finals day we also run a series of Premier Leagues which are fixed date leagues taking place throughout the summer. These were won by the following:
U11 Premier League – Walmley
U13 Premier League – Walmley
U15 Premier League – Knowle and Dorridge
U15 Championship – Hampton and Solihull
Both Walmley and Knowle and Dorridge represented the county with great distinction in the U13 and U15 ECB National Club Competitions. K@D won through to the regional finals of the U15 competition only to miss out on a place on finals day. Walmley U13s however became the first Warwickshire club to win through to a national finals day since 2004. They represented the County with great distinction on a lovely summers day at Rugby School eventually coming up just short against Broadstairs from Kent.
The summer also saw the WCB and clubs run 28 Under 9 soft ball festival days. These form a great entry level into cricket and also provide clubs with the opportunity to raise some much needed revenue via BBQs and bar takings. We will be looking to extend this programme again in 2017 and allow more of our young cricketers to enjoy the opportunity to play lots of games in a short time.
